JILL LANCHBERY
A Bucket of Ashes
Review by Monica Tracey (Unweaving the Thread), best selling Richard and Judy author:
An impressive debut from a writer with the gift of depicting characters and places, especially Nigeria, in accurate and luminous prose.
It moves with ease between the interweaving stories of Joanna, a fashion illustrator, and Sally, mother of four daughters and wife to Isaac, the son of a Nigerian chief. They first met in 1990 and subsequently in 2005 when their lives have considerably altered.
This absorbing and multi layered novel deals with the problems of inter-race marriage, a truculent and alienated teenager, lost love and betrayal. It is a story of tenderness, friendship and shattering tragedy.
Lanchbery does not offer easy solutions. She offers hope.

A gentle story well told. The characters really do come to life.

Nigeria brought to life, and I should know, I've been there. Jill's descriptive work is excellent, the storyline had me turning the pages - well done. I can't wait for her next book
